7 Times Violence Wasn't the Answer

Описание

Occasionally you run into an enemy who you can't beat by conventional violent means. Take the non-violent moral high ground though and you're rewarded with victory and more leftover bullets to use on the next baddie. Embrace tranquility, contemplate these times violence wasn’t the answer, and subscribe for a video like this one every Thursday!

Take The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, for instance, in which you had to let a bear wail on you to prove your respect for nature, or the Resident Evil remake, in which your best option against the monsterrific Lisa Trevor was to show her a sarcophagus full of bones instead of shooting her body full of holes. Hurray for pacifism!

7 Times Violence Wasn't The Answer: Commenter Edition

Violence never truly solves anything, except in videogames, where it solves everything. Except! For the handful of special occasions that call for non-violent lateral thinking. Hot on the heels of our last video in this topic, here are your suggestions for sneaky ways to resolve a conflict. Subscribe for a video like this one every Thursday! Take the Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion, for example, in which one quest has you track a gruesome creature known as a spotted wight to its lair, where it has been tormenting locals and also, apparently, hoarding spoons? You can either leap from the shadows and attack the wight in their own home which, rude, OR choose to sit down and enjoy a meal with them like a civilised Witcher. Avoid using spoons as you eat, and you lift the curse on your dinner companion, who is magicked back into human form with nary a bloody and impolite swordfight over the dining table. If only all Witching was this easy, eh Geralt? #7things #outsidexbox #list --- Become a member of Outside Xbox! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKk076mm-7JjLxJcFSXIPJA/join New Oxventure D&D t-shirts available now! http://tspr.ng/c/oxventures Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 7 Jokes We Didn't Get Until Much Later

7 Jokes We Didn't Get Until Much Later

Guybrush smuggling bananas? Bawdy Ken Masters win quotes? Ian Paul Freeley? We didn’t get all the jokes in the games we played as kids because some in-game, adult-targeting humour sails clear over the heads of younger players with its grown-up references and risque innuendo. So let’s all of us sophisticated adults enjoy those jokes with now our clever adult brains. Beware of rude things and saucy wordplay ahead and subscribe for a video like this every Thursday. Don’t get us wrong, old school shooter Rise of the Triad was not a game for kids. Which is exactly why we wanted to play it so much. The irony is that even though Rise of the Triad is a game that really only people old enough to vote should be allowed to play, it contains a playable character called Ian Paul Freeley, in probably the most childish joke on this list. And yet we still didn't get it at the time. If we had to pick a particularly elusive visual gag or movie reference from Space Quest 6, on the other hand, and we do, we’d say the inflatable alien love doll parked in the corner of one room was particularly confusing to underage players. The mannequin-looking thing owned by the thugs who kidnap you early in the game is, looking back now, clearly artificial companion. Between the low-detail mid-nineties graphics and unhelpfully sarcastic narrator, however, we were more or less mystified by this rubber roommate. Which, also looking back now, was a reference to a lady character from Total Recall, another film we had not seen at the time. Thank goodness. #jokes #7things #outsidexbox --- Become a member of Outside Xbox! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKk076mm-7JjLxJcFSXIPJA/join New Oxventure D&D t-shirts available now! http://tspr.ng/c/oxventures Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 7 Awesome Abilities That Were More Trouble Than They Were Worth

7 Awesome Abilities That Were More Trouble Than They Were Worth

Sometimes in videogames you will often find yourself in possession of a weapon or ability that seems great at first, only to discover that when you use it, it's more trouble than it's worth. Here are just some of the times we’ve encountered that very thing. Enjoy, and subscribe for a video like this every Thursday, why not? Take air support in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, for example. Call in air support on your iDroid and your helicopter pilot Pequod storms in, playing his music at full volume and starts strafing everything in sight with miniguns, which alerts everyone to your presence, causes a load of mayhem, and stops you being able to score a perfect S rank on the mission. He then usually gets shot down, costing you a bunch of money. Sometimes heroism has dire consequences, when what seemed like the right choice turns out to be quite the snafu. 7 Times It Was the Darkest Possible Timeline

7 Times It Was the Darkest Possible Timeline

Sauron smashing the Shire, George Washington going power mad, and Luke Skywalker turning to the dark side: bleak alternative timelines like these give us a gloomy glimpse of how things would go if it weren’t for videogame heroes always succeeding at solving everyone's problems. Consider these times it was the darkest possible timeline and subscribe for a video like this every Thursday! The Assassin’s Creed 3 DLC called The Tyranny of King Washington, for instance, imagined a grim alternate history in which George Washington realises that the only problem with being president is that you have to worry about stupid democratic elections. Far better to just crown yourself king instead. On the other hand if you finish the canonical do-gooder nonsense of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest main campaign, you unlocked the Rise of Sauron campaign, which asked “what if Frodo didn’t destroy the ring, and instead hung onto it and then Sauron’s forces conquered the entirety of Middle-earth?" A deeply grim alternative timeline in which Hobbit corpses are burned on Ent bonfires, is the answer. There there was the decidedly non-canon DLC alternative timeline of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, in which all the good guys turn bad or die at the hand of Darkest Timeline Starkiller. That's not to mention the darkest timeline in which Resident Evil's Leon Kennedy is circle-strafed to death by a bunch of masked Umbrella goons, played by you and your friends in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. For shame. Now who will save the day in Resident Evil 6? --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 8 Signs You're Living in an Evil Dystopia

8 Signs You're Living in an Evil Dystopia

You're a busy person. It's easy to lose track of current affairs until one day you look the window and see surveillance drones, stormtroopers and propaganda screens. If you suspect the place in which you live is an evil dystopia, don't worry. Stay vigiliant and subscribe: http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox One of the quickest ways to check if you're living in a bleak, totalitarian dystopia is to stand in the street and look up. Brutalist skyscrapers are a dead giveaway, especially when mounted on the back of a giant robotic spider (see: Timeshift's Alpha District). Gross zombifying epidemics are another warning sign, such as the rat plague in Dishonored's city of Dunwall. You should be equally concerned, however, if your home city is eerily clean, as with the City of Glass in Mirror's Edge, where all the litter has been swept up and incinerated by a corrupt government, along with all the homeless people, stray dogs and political protesters. Nazi-style uniforms on government officials are another red flag (see: Killzone), as are actual red flags if they have swastikas on them (see: Wolfenstein: The New Order). Though if you screwed up your alternate timeline this badly and didn't notice you're living in a dystopian nightmare, you should really be paying closer attention. Fallout 4: 7 Places Where Fallout 4 is Freakier Than You Thought

Fallout 4 appears to be less out-and-out weird than its predecessors, but though there's no Wild Wasteland a la Fallout: New Vegas, there is still unmarked weirdness for you to stumble upon in the Commonwealth. Spoilers ahead! Discover them and subscribe for more Fallout 4: http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox These peculiar places include the General Atomics Galleria, originally intended to showcase the products of the General Atomics company by demonstrating what a shopping district staffed by their line of robots would be like. What it would be like is 'extremely murdery', it turns out. There's also Covenant, a suspiciously intact-looking settlement that won't let you in until you do a psychological test to prove you aren't a robot. The test by the way is stolen wholesale from Vault-Tec's Generalized Occupational Aptitude Test from Fallout 3. At least be original with your synth-racism, guys. And don't be forgetting Pickman's Gallery, a charming exhibition of psychotic blood paintings, or the school where they fed pink food paste to everyone. Spoiler alert: the answer is “not well”. 7 Things Games Stole Shamelessly from Movies

7 Things Games Stole Shamelessly from Movies

Movies get their ideas from all kinds of places, including videogames, so it's only fair that games are ripping off movies with the kind of shameless abandon of a kid borrowing some else’s homework four minutes before it’s due. Consider seven of our favourite examples. Subscribe to Outside Xbox for a video like this every Thursday! The first Dead Rising game, for instance, was launched in 2006 and trapped photojournalist Frank West in a zombie-filled shopping complex with only his wits and a mall’s worth of consumer goods to save him. It’s uncannily similar to George A Romero’s classic zombie movie Dawn of the Dead. This didn’t escape the notice of the Dawn of the Dead rights holders, who were of the opinion that Dead Rising had ripped off the movie, and threatened to sue Capcom back in 2008. The suit was eventually settled in favour of Capcom, when it was deemed Dead Rising had none of the social commentary that distinguishes Dawn of the Dead. 7 Weirdest Cameos We Did Not See Coming

Writer, presenter and sometime games journalist Charlie Brooker had a bizarre cameo in Sniper Elite 3, for instance, in which he appears in expansion pack Hunt the Grey Wolf. The Sniper Elite series combines the slow-motion bullet time of Neo, the X-ray vision of Superman, and the obsession with internal organs of Hannibal Lecter. 8 Times a Game Screwed You Over on Purpose, You Swear: Commenter Edition

8 Times a Game Screwed You Over on Purpose, You Swear: Commenter Edition

Videogames are supposed to challenge you, not screw you over for fun. Recently we recalled the times we could swear a game stacked the odds against us and in the comments of that video many of you submitted your own similarly suspect scenarios. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Subscribe for more! http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox Take the gym leaders in Pokemon games. Sure, you expect gym leaders to be good at Pokemon battles, but these poke-pros are suspiciously good, if you get my meaning. Yes, it seems that no matter what your strategy is going in, it’s always countered by the gym leader’s clever counter strategy of absolutely nailing you with critical hits, and then using a full restore just as it looks like you might actually be in with a fighting chance of winning. At least Left 4 Dead is upfront about it, on account of how the game has a so-called AI director whose sole responsibility is to dynamically choreograph your co-op zombie apocalypse experience, or in layman’s terms: screw with you. To use one particular example, in the Parish level in Left 4 Dead 2, much of the cemetery layout can be adjusted on the fly, and if you and your three survivor mates have been having a good day, the AI director is empowered to make you take the long way through the tombstones. This means it’ll take longer to get through the cemetery, and we all know the longer you spend outside of a nice cosy safe room, the greater the odds you’ll be swarmed by a zombified cemetery tour group. --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 7 Heroes Who Lived Long Enough to Become Villains: Commenter Edition

Heroes have all the good karma but villains have all the fun, which is presumably why so many game heroes switch sides for the sequel. This is more widespread than we even imagined, judging by the quantity of comments on our last video on the issue. Direct your attention to these seven heroes who lived long enough to become the villain and subscribe to Outside Xbox for a video like this every Thursday. Take Prince Arthas Menethil circa Warcraft 3, whose goal as a paladin was to stop a plague of undeath from infesting the kingdom - something at which he failed pretty spectacularly by using the cursed sword Frostmourne. Said sword turned Prince Arthas into a Death Knight of the Scourge, and lead to him destroying Lordaeron, as well as much of the surrounding area. Arthas then merged with the Lich King, killed his Dad King, and began a reign of terror that ended only when your heroic player character from World of Warcraft voyaged to his base in Northrend to defeat him. There's a lesson in there about not wielding cursed runeblades nicked from Lich Kings, we reckon. #7things #outsidexbox #gamevillains --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 7 Times You Made the Game Much Harder by Accident

7 Times You Made the Game Much Harder by Accident

Fallout 76 Gameplay: 7 Things We Did in Fallout 76 - NUKES! VATS! BANJO!

The news that Fallout 76 would be a multiplayer game left us with the same mix of emotions a person would feel upon entering a Vault Tec vault: excitement, confusion, and the feeling that it could all go very wrong, depending on how things played out. However, we’ve now seen a little bit of how it does play out, thanks to a three hour hands-on session with the game, and are here to give you a better idea of what to expect when you head out into the West Virginian wasteland next month. Here are seven things we did, in this brand new Fallout 76 gameplay. Subscribe for more Fallout 76! Fallout 76 is out on release date 14 November 2018 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with an open beta beginning on 23 October for Xbox One, and 30 October for PlayStation 4 and PC. #fallout76 #fallout #outsidexbox --- Become a member of Outside Xbox! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKk076mm-7JjLxJcFSXIPJA/join New Oxventure D&D t-shirts available now! http://tspr.ng/c/oxventures Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 7 Times Being the Hero Was Seriously Bad for Your Health

7 Times Being the Hero Was Seriously Bad for Your Health

Game heroes are typically the picture of health, all muscle tone and good teeth. So it’s all the more tragic when they canonically endure debilitating disease, smashed bones, and severed limbs in the name of doing their heroic business. Just ponder these times being the hero was seriously bad for your health and subscribe for a video like this every Thursday: http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox For starters, there's your chosen lead character in Far Cry 2. If you thought a four-hour delay to your EasyJet flight was a bad start to your holiday, spare a thought for this guy. Within minutes of stepping off the plane in an unnamed African country, your character contracts malaria - the symptoms of which include headaches, nausea and the screen going a bit yellow around the edges. Then there's Dying Light's ostensible hero Kyle Crane. In so many bits of zombie fiction, a key character finds themselves mysteriously immune to the zombie plague. Not our Kyle! The parkourist protagonist parachutes into zombie-infested Harran to retrieve a stolen file, then gets immediately mobbed by bandits and zombies, leading to him being bitten and infected with the zombifying lurgy. This is nearly as bad as the raw deal received by Batman in Arkham City, in which Bats is captured and injected with blood from the Joker, which is contaminated with toxic Titan formula. Not only is there the Titan stuff to worry about, do we think that Joker took the time to check he and Batman had compatible blood types? We very much doubt it. --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 7 Best Unlockable Bonuses That Were Worth All the Hassle

They say hard work is its own reward but a much better reward is an actual reward. Videogames agree, which is why they offer bonuses that are definitely worth the effort it takes to unlock them. Here are seven of our favourites. 8 Times the Real Ending Was in Premium DLC

8 Times the Real Ending Was in Premium DLC

A good ending should tie up the loose ends and show all the preceding stuff added up to something. One surefire way to annoy players therefore is to put the real ending of the game into some premium DLC that doesn't come with the game as standard. Subscribe for more lists! http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox This video ponders those instances where a game's true ending was in DLC you had to pay for. Watchers beware giant spoilers for the following games: Fallout 3, Asura's Wrath, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Dragon Age Origins, The Evil Within, Batman Arkham Knight, Outlast and its Whistleblower DLC, and Dead Space 3. With Fallout 3, for example, we were still complaining to friends, family and nervous passers-by about the ending half a year after it came out. As much as we loved the game, we were still salty over how your decision right at the end came down to either sacrifice yourself to a room full of deadly radiation or sacrifice Sarah Lyons to a room full of deadly radiation. All while Fawkes stood there like a giant, useless, radiation-proof pile of no help at all. Then along came Fallout 3 DLC Broken Steel, which modified your final decision to include the mind-bogglingly obvious option of sending in a radiation-proof companion to soak up the rads and turn on the water purifier. Get lost, canonical ending of the main game: the Wasteland was saved and everybody made it out alive. Or how about Asura's Wrath? When your plot is as involved and frankly as furious as that of Asura's Wrath, you might well lose track of what's going on and, in your confusion, forget to put your ending on the game disc. We hope it wasn't for more cynical financial reasons than that it was arranged so you had to spend an extra fiver to get the downloadable final four episodes of Asura's Wrath to experience the true ending. In episodes 19 to 22, Asura's daughter Mithra, the one he's spent the entire game trying to protect, becomes inhabited by a talking golden spider, who turns out to be the Lord of All Creation. Who Asura kills when he takes on his final, godly form, ripping the space time continuum a new one in the process. Nothing major, then? If you just played what was on the disc and left it at that, well, that's like the time I walked out of the Sixth Sense ten minutes early. You know, that movie about the nice psychologist who everyone ignores. --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about Xbox 360 games and Xbox One games. 7 Cheaty Bosses Who Didn't Fight Fair: Commenter Edition

We recently recalled cheaty videogame bosses, who used tactics such as deleting your save file, learning from their mistakes, or being from Bloodborne. The comments on that video revealed you had suffered similarly unjust encounters, so here are yet more times you folks were bested by a bent boss. 7 Videogame Vacations That Went Horribly Wrong

7 Videogame Vacations That Went Horribly Wrong

Skydiving in Far Cry 3, a resort stay in Dead Island, and the tropical getaway in Let's Go Jungle Lost on the Island of Spice: consider, for starters, these videogame vacations from hell that are enough to make you want to stay at home. Also subscribe for a video like this every Thursday, why not? If you’re keen on a holiday in Southeast Asia, or maybe just plagued by under-seasoned food, you might consider a backpacking trip through the lush rainforest of Let’s Go Jungle’s Island of Spice. There’s loads here for the discerning tourist: beautiful nature, a warm, temperate climate and some fascinating fauna that has to be seen to be believed. To paraphrase this game’s preposterous backstory, it turns out that local scientists discovered a special mushroom that causes accelerated biological growth so the jungle could be restored to its former glory after a particularly nasty war. The upshot is Let’s Go Jungle protagonists Ben and Norah aren’t having the vacation of their dreams - or not unless they habitually eat an entire block of Monterey Jack before bedtime. Because we all know what "accelerated biological growth" is scientific shorthand for: giant spiders. #7things #outsidexbox #vacations --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games.
